LottyJ1
Hello, Margo my ex-batt stopped laying at christmas but has been fine until this week. She has no energy which isn't her she normally runs around the place at top speed. She is currently sitting in the garden in the sun in a ball shape. Head tucked in and tail down. She hasn't laid since christmas but still squats and her face is very red. She is eating today but not as much. I think she might be internally laying which now after a few months is starting to cause trouble. They are wormed and get life guard in their water. I have felt her and her crop yesterday was full in the evening and empty this morning so ok and she doesn't have a swollen belly. However when I picked her up yesterday to feel her tummy she didn't like it much and looked uncomfortable after. I am thinking that an implant may help but does anyone know of a chicken friendly vet around Magor/Chepstow as mine isn't. Her poo is a bit green? Thanks
Grandmashazzie
Do you think she is egg bound? At chicken school the lady recommended popping hen in basin of warm water and carefully checking vent I don't think I would be confident but it might help to goggle it if your vets not so good. LottyJ1
Been to vets - she thinks its egg peritionitis. Margo has a massive temperature but not much else seems wrong apart from the lack of energy and hunched posture. She has given me antibiotics and metacam. If the temperature is down after a week we can then implant but not while she is so poorly. Poor Margo. I got her some maggots on my way home which she loved. LottyJ1
She seems to be doing ok so far - took her back to the vet last night and her temperature is lower but not yet normal so got more baytril and metacam. Back to vets next Tuesday to see if temp is normal and we can implant
