Jerky neck - sick? - what should I do?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Hoping someone can help me.

We lost one of our exbats on friday - and put it down to old age (we'd had her 2 years), she slowed right down, slept lots, had purple comb, then stopped eating, and slept for 2 days, we took her to the vet on friday eve.

Our remaining exbat seemed OK, so we bought 2 new chickens on Monday to keep her company.

However, from Monday (we were away for the weekend, but our chicken sitter says she was fine - and she spent all of Sunday with her) Po seems very out of sorts. On Monday she was 'sick' a few times, like spitting water out of her mouth and has done this again today, she is producing white liquidy poo (sometimes with some dark green bits), we thought maybe the stress of losing her friend, then meeting 2 new chicks may have caused her to be unsettled. But yesterday started also doing this odd jerky neck movement - not all the time, but a few times during yesterday and today.

It's hard to describe but you can see here:

She also seems a bit quiet, and not eating much today,

I can't feel anything solid in her crop, if anything it feels a bit 'watery', but I don't feel often so not sure if that's normal?

I'd really appreciate any advice, I don't want to lose her - or for the new ones to get sick if its something nasty,

Thanks in advance

Thanks so much good egg - I read the other post and sounds just like it - I've just woken her up (very unimpressed chicken) and made her sick, and she produced lots of nasty smelling fluid so think you were right. I'll continue with the suggestions on the other page and fingers crossed we'll get her feeling better. Thanks again for the advice.

Hi all, thought id give a little update on Po. After the advice here. We made her sick (4 times in total- after that nothing was coming out), and started nutri drops and canesten oral on Friday. She has perked up lots, much more like her usual self, eating again, near enough properly, from yesterday, and running around the garden. Fingers crossed, with finishing the medicine, she'll stay that way. Thank goodness for the instant information service of this forum!
