patsylabrador
A couple of big branches fell off the lilac tree. It's old and was top heavy with flowers. I thought it would be fun to put them in the chicken's run to give them something different to think about. Does anyone think that's a bad idea. I googled it and didn't see it on any poisonous lists. merlina
lilac is edible for humans, so my guess would be that it's ok (but it is only a supposition)
heth1986
My girls have a lilac bush / tree right across that back of their run, they've always had a good peck at the leaves and have created some rather amusing acrobatic moves which enable them to nibble just that little bit higher They spend most days, especially in the rainy weather, rummaging around the base and they've never suffered any ill effects from it. I think, to a certain extent, chickens tend to know when something really isn't good for them... I once sent my OH out to collect some dandelions for the girls and he came home with a back FULL of clover which he promptly, and proudly, emptied into the run. The girls had a 10 second scratch about and then didn't touch it again. Rather baffled, we did a quick google search and discovered it's poisonous to them! Clever chickens So that was my long winded way of saying I think they'll be fine
