Gertie
Hi there I noticed Rosie, my Hybrid 3.5year old was in the nest box for a long time on Saturday. In the afternoon I checked her again & saw clear fluid coming from her vent. I took her to the vet as I thought maybe it was a broken egg as the fluid looked like egg white. The vet couldn't find a broken egg but said there was one further up intact. She gave me Deneguard antibiotics. When I got home I had a think & I'm guessing she's egg bound. I gave her calcium Zolcal D in water & have coated pellets in cod liver oil. She didn't lay yesterday but was out free ranging & looked happy enough. She did eat & drink. I'm worried eggs will be backing up. I'm going to try bathing her in warm water today. What should I do next? (I've read the sticky in Poultry Health). Should I take her back to vets today? P Thank you
Egluntyne
If she is 3.5 years old, her laying will be coming to an end and she won't lay every day. Maybe that's all it is.
Gertie
Maybe that's it. She has laid almost every day up until now but since Saturday, nothing at all. Would clear fluid have meant something else? She hasn't passed the egg the vet felt which worries me. She looks fine though and I've made sure she has eaten & drunk.
