stacey30
Wondered if anyone has any experience of gapeworm? I have a hen about 26 weeks. She's making a blocked throaty noise, has a wet muddy nose, not laying, stretches her neck out and closes her eyes more than the others. Fine in regards to eating, drinking, normal scratchy behaviour. I have looked at her neck, wings, down the throat etc but nothing to be seen. My other hen's look ok. I have some flubenvet coming tomorrow as I thought that would rule out that type of illness and then I can go to the vets if that doesn't work. Anything else I could do? Many thanks
The Dogmother
I'd take her to the vet with the symptoms you describe; Gapeworm (if it is that) will need a vet recommendation on wormer dosage arther than the over-the-counter dose. It sounds more like a chest infection to me though - put your ear to her back, between the wings and listen to her breathing; if it sounds bubbly or crackly then she might well have a chest infection. Either way, I'd get her to the vet as they can go downhill very quickly.
