chickenlicken85
A silly newbie question but am I ok to let my chickens out in bad weather? I know it sounds daft but I just assumed they didnt like rain and would take themselves indoors however they spent most of the day yesterday outside in the wind and rain exploring the garden. Eventually the rain got that bad I put them back in the coop. Do I need to do this or are they happy enough in any weather and should I leave them to it? They have access to their coop at all times x
Egluntyne
It is OK - unless you have a fancy schmancy breed like Polands who aren't supposed to get their heads wet. It is only recently that hens have been molly coddled and considered pets. Before that they took their chance wandering about the farmyard. They are sensible enough to find shelter or even refuse to come out if they don't like the look of the weather.

merlina
mine don't seem to care about weather They have plenty of places to shelter, but just run around in pouring rain and get themselves soaked through it doesn't seem to do them any harm
