The Dogmother
This question has been asked on here before (a search should throw it up) and from memory, the general consensus was that they got caked in poo and were impossible to clean. The best bet is to use Aubiose or similar in the run and change it when needed.
Margaret
Nooooo, dont do it. ( Sorry if anybody loves them ) In my earliest hen keeping days I brough them, cost about £200 to fill the run, really great to start with and then the smell and the slime was horrid, I had a covered run but on soil. Eventually threw them all away moved on to concrete, to stop the rats digging and use Auboise, fantastic stuff. Did try hard wood last winter and that did work well as kept it down for the 5 months, with Auboise have to change every month, but great stuff. Hope this helps. Also still finding bits of rubber, when gardening and that was 5 years ago.
