Mrs_B
Just fitted some bumpa bits to three of the older girls to try and stop some pecking issues and I became quite upset with the whole thing even though someone held the girls still! Atlanta became so upset she had a wee all over the chair, which caused me to worry thinking I was hurting her. But they're all OK now - phew It's Big Sister that's the problem pecking the other girls but the other two get very curious too and have been known to pick on Pebble, so I opted to fit them all (except Pebble). I have noticed this week though, that since I got my new girls, Lady and Atlanta have damaged the front of their beaks from trying to bash their way through the partition between the two flocks! They are crazy doing this to themselves (Lady's beak at the front is now misshaped) but hopefully that behaviour will settle soon. The little girls just stare in bewilderment at the other flock's craziness... I just wondered how long people kept their bumpa bits on for? x
daxigirl
I just fitted bumpa bits too after getting fed up of the feather picking. They're nearly bald well apart from Lisa-Marie who's pristine. Hers and Paxo's lasted 10 minutes, not found them yet in the garden. Will have to find a smaller size somewhere. The Awfuls are still holding firm. Not sure but they'll be on a few weeks at least. Dolly flicked hers crooked as I was fitting it and made her nose bleed so got away without one but I'm watching her. Got the fitting pliers kit, so much easier to do on your own. Patricia W
In most cases, they fell off after about 2 months, but the cycle of pecking had been broken by then. In a couple of cases, we've taken them off after about the same period of time.
