A birthday -Tips for a useless baker...please

Recommended Posts

My son turned 9 on Sunday and decided he would like a lemon cake. I cannot bake. I saw on here a recipe for a delish lemon loaf so I thought I can do that. I did and it looked amazing until I tried to take it out of the tin (well in fact a silicone mould I had lined with baking paper - is that what you call it???)

Anyway the end fell off the cake when i tried to detach it from the paper and I then dropped the "H" of the happy birthday candles and broke it  I had by this time put the lemon drizzle on as it said to do it on a hot cake I think this moisture proved fatal for me. luckily DS saw the funny side and laughed.

So please tell me where did I go wrong?

When do you take the cake out of the tin? Immediately or when cooled? When do you detach the paper.

I need this advice as an emergency LOL DS has asked me to make another. Thanks for the recipe, looked a disaster tasted delish.

Most cakes you can take out of the tin to cool, but with the lemon drizzle once you have poured all the syrup onto it you need to leave it to cool in its wrapper. Otherwise what happened to you is what happens  It's just too soft to do anything with when warm......well, apart from eating it
