CatieB
My son turned 9 on Sunday and decided he would like a lemon cake. I cannot bake. I saw on here a recipe for a delish lemon loaf so I thought I can do that. I did and it looked amazing until I tried to take it out of the tin (well in fact a silicone mould I had lined with baking paper - is that what you call it???) Anyway the end fell off the cake when i tried to detach it from the paper and I then dropped the "H" of the happy birthday candles and broke it I had by this time put the lemon drizzle on as it said to do it on a hot cake I think this moisture proved fatal for me. luckily DS saw the funny side and laughed. So please tell me where did I go wrong? When do you take the cake out of the tin? Immediately or when cooled? When do you detach the paper. I need this advice as an emergency LOL DS has asked me to make another. Thanks for the recipe, looked a disaster tasted delish.
bluekarin
Most cakes you can take out of the tin to cool, but with the lemon drizzle once you have poured all the syrup onto it you need to leave it to cool in its wrapper. Otherwise what happened to you is what happens It's just too soft to do anything with when warm......well, apart from eating it
CatieB
Thank you Attempt number two in the oven now....will leave to cool
Lavenders_Blue
Yep, I agree - normally I would take a cake straight out of the tin as soon as it comes out of the oven, but in the case of a lemon drizzle, you need to leave the cake in the tin (after drizzling) until it's cool otherwise it will disintegrate! chuckmum6
It needs to left to cool in the tin, this is a level of discipline I have yet to master and always end up taking it out too soon, leaving chunks behind. However it tastes great!
CatieB
Cake number two looks fab. Was fully cool before I removed it and came out a treat. Thanks
quickcluck
well done!!! any pics? If you're using silcone, they have to be stone cold before you take them out!
