Chortle Chook
Brilliant ! Strange that someone would have 50 mallards - or perhaps the journalist and 'concerned member of the public' did not know the difference between a mallard and other types of domestic duck
The Dogmother
They're commonly used on shoots; we have just had 500 mallard youngsters delivered at work to grow on.
Chortle Chook
I have to admit I've never quite got used to the idea of growing on birds just for shooting. I know that a lot of shooting does provide food as 'game' but I also know that a lot of birds get wounded (as per that sad episode in Tess of the D'Urbavilles) and it seems odd to me to consider it a 'sport'. My father once got asked to a shoot of pheasants by my uncle who is really into it, and he said it was about as sporting as shooting hens in a farm yard
