converting a shed into a chicken coop

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I'm in the middle of converting my 8' x 4' shed into a chicken coop as my coop with the run attached has been infested with red mites and I've been trying everything to get rid of them for the last 6 months but the little beggers keep coming back but that's another topic

Back to the shed I'm making the nesting boxes that are going to be just over 1m wide one on top of the other with a roosting bars on the front but I don't know whether to have three as it will need to hold 13 chickens as I'm rehoming an extra 4 chickens on sunday (2 light Sussex's but I'm not sure of the breed of the other 2 as yet I will have to do some research of post some pics to see if anyone can help) also I can't decide whether to put in dividers or not as the nesting boxes on my other coop didn't have any and the my girls seemed to like snuggling up together and whether the roosting bars should be 1" round or 2" square

If anybody has any advice that would be great

James

Hi everyone

Thanks for the advice

I've only just finished it and picked the new girls up they are 2 light Sussex's and to 2 Rhode Island Reds (My first pure breeds)

We have named them Vera, Ethel, Mabel and Pearl

I will post some pics soon just got a few little bits to go then completely finished

I hope they all like their new place

James
