Looking for advice on whether to have the eglu classic on the inside on a table or outside my (soon to be ordered) WIR. I was all for having it on the outside but with today's weather blowing a hoolie outside I'm now having a rethink and are wondering if they'd be much cosier on the inside. Hmmm, have read ALL of part 1 of your WIR stories and are half way through part 2....but I'm still confused.

What have you got? In or out? And are you still happy? Any pros and cons of either way?

For once my husbands pushing me to order but its ME holding back....just want to get it right!

Hope to hear from you all, loving all the pictures everyone's put up

Nicky

I started with a cube and attached run (not walk-in, they didn't have them then), then acquired a wooden framed WIR with eglu. The run was modified to put the cube butted up to the outside and the eglu sat inside for a year or so. However, the eglu took up space inside whether on the floor or on a bench, plus you had to go inside the run to get the eggs, and take it out or get the run wet when you wanted to clean it. For these reasons I decided I wanted the eglu outside and got my dad to modify the run wire to bolt onto the eglu like the standard run does. This does mean I have two holes in my run if I move my houses, but I prefer to have more space inside.

If you feel like trawling through chicken pics there are versions of my run in here.

I decided on my eglu inside the WIR, on a table. No regrets at all.

I can collect eggs at the same time as filling the glug and grub. The eglu gets a bit of protection from the elements (especially when I've put my perspex panels up). Any space lost is space that they wouldn't use much anyway as it's up off the ground. Taking the eglu apart and out of the WIR is no problem (I don't have to clean it much though as they only lay in it). No possibility of anything trying to nibble its way into the eglu.

There are plenty of photos (although quite old now) in my signature link. Basic setup is still the same.

I know, it's hard to decide - try to imagine your daily routine and what would best suit it. Good luck!
