Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Hi everyone,

 

It's been some time since I last posted as everything has been going surprisingly (touchwood) swimmingly with my 3 girls.

 

I've been thinking for a little while that it's probably time to change the wood chip in my WIR, I had at least a tonne of the stuff put in there about 2 years ago, the run is not covered so it's fair to say that it's had some good use and has been absolutely wonderful... until this rain! The WIR is now getting a bit soggy so I want to dig it all out and get it replaced before winter really sets in.

 

My question is, what do I do with the old stuff? I've thought about spreading it on the flower beds on the front garden but I'm concerned that it might smell? I've always poo picked on a daily basis and dug over & sanitised weekly.

 

What do you guys do with yours???

I always use mine around the garden. I would say it smells for a day or two, but once it has rained and bedded in it's fine

I think I'll just go for it, I can always mix some stalosan in as I put it down I guess? Then I can have a pink garden for a few days too!

I put mine on the garden too! It doesn't smell for long and is no worse than other manure. I do get the odd bit or corn growing though from any mixed corn that they haven't eaten!
