Kirstyhayhurst
Hi I'm new to the forums although I have had my fantastic chickens just over 1 and a half years, it seems it the last week my white star has gone into moulting mode. She seemed a bit 'not her self' so I've been monitoring her and I couldn't spot any reason for her seeming unwell. So I have ordered some flubenvet thinking they are due to be wormed so could be that, but now she has started to moult so i figure that's why she hasn't been her self and has stopped laying. But now I don't know if its a good idea to worm them, like I say they are due to be done but also don't know if it will upset her?? Any advice would be great appreciated
gavclojak
When we got our ex batts we took them to the vets and she said one was in moult, she recommended we worm them with flubenvet too, I think it can only do her good to get rid of any worms she may have, at least she will be without internal parasites sapping all her energy when she bends it to get through the moulting process. After worming I give mine a small tin of tuna in water a few times a week to up her protein intake.
Kirstyhayhurst
Thank you for your reply, fantastic I will carry on with worming as planned, and the tuna is a good tip for the protein. Thank you
redsunset
Was watching this thread with interest as despite having chooks for 18 mnths, have not had a full on moult yet. 2 broodies lost neck feathers which looked comical but now growing nicely in. Guess it will be a learning curve for a few years before I consider myself a little knowledgeable on some chook matters!
gavclojak
Hi, I am still not convinced its a moult for my girl, the vet said it was but I am sure she had been feather pecked by her cohorts before coming home. She was an ex comeercial barn hen so am waiting and watching to see if she goes into full moult or not, we will see.
