Does anyone know if these can be open in the oven??? I'm thinking of trying to make a cone shaped christmas cake!

I have only seen used to be assembled with choux (On cooking shows). Don't know much more about them. But they do look amazing when completed.

I'm not sure a croquembouche mould would be oven-proof, as they are designed to be used for the assembly of the cooked choux buns. I suppose you could always check before you buy one, but I'm not confident they would be suitable to go in an oven.

 

I also wonder how evenly a cone-shaped cake would cook - wouldn't the pointy end cook much quicker than the wide end?

How about stacking various shaped cakes on top of each other and do a bit of carving.

you could make one 9 inch layer, one 8 inch layer, two 6 inch layers and a cup cake. Use 2 cake recipes or 2 cake mixes. It would take very little carving to shape it down to a cone shape.

Hmmmmm good idea! I might think about a scaled down version as would work out too expensive in fruit cake.... but no reason I can't do a smaller one. Won't be easy to ice tho! lol
