Egg eating

Recommended Posts

If the eggs are soft shelled they may be breaking them by accident then eating them. You need to I feed them grit, oyster shell and you can try some sunflower seeds. Try some rubber eggs :) good luck

They have free access to grit and that powder stuff mixed into their layers pellets to strenghten the shells. And I have tried the rubber eggs.

Not sure what the sunflower seeds would do.

Getting desparate!!

See if you can get on to this link. Seems to suggest everything we both know though :(

Thanks for tips.

Link was interesting, not sure what the milk feed would do!

Anybody tried attaching a dark curtain or similar onto the Eglu? If she can't see it - less likely to eat it - maybe. But this is a chicken...

I think making the nest box darker or finding a way to fit a rollaway nest box are your only solutions.

If the eggs are thin shelled then this is likely why they are being eaten. I tend to find that my girls eat the thin shelled eggs but leave the normal ones.

When I did have an egg eating problem, mustard sorted it for me, but that wasn't due to thin shelled eggs, that was due to a stroppy hen being cross about me introducing some newbies!!
