do you put anything in the eglu run??

Recommended Posts

Hi

we have had our 3 Hens for 5 weeks now, and as the nightsa get darker we will not be seeing them as much during the week and they wont have as much free range time. I wanted to know if anyon put anythign it the Eglu run with them to amuse them (my daughter thinks I am mad) I was thinking of popping a few perches in there as they like to sit on the log i already have in their but thought I could make use of the height at one end. What do you think?

So do you put anything in with them? if so what?

Also do you use another feeder apart form a Grub in the run, I was looking at tredle/solway feeders, but cannot find them on a smaller scale. Does anyone use anything like this?

Any info woudl be appreciated as we are very new to Hen keeping

Oh yes. I love giving the girls things to climb on and perch on. I just got some banana tree root. It's fantastic. With regards to the feeders, they're are loads to chose from, but the grubs do take up less room. Have you got a waterproof cover for your run. Would definitely recommend getting one. Have fun :D

I got the waterproof run that goes with the eglu and have some tarpaulin on standby if the rain gets very bad to cover then a bit more. Will look into the banana tree root. I am hoping in the spring they can have a walk in run so more room.

Think I may have to make some perches to fit the run

Hi

I put in a holder full of greens which they love. I have also just ordered a parrot perch, which is made of rope and when you twist it it takes on whatever shape you leave it in. It sort of strings from one corner of the run to the other and although for parrots, will take the girls' weight.

I also hang up a corn on the cob at times, or half of a white cabbage for them to amuse themselves with. One of them loves to have an all out fight with a CD, whereas the other two aren't bothered.
