Vaccinations?

Recommended Posts

Yes i get my bunny vaccinated against myxomatosis but not VHD, although I am thinking about it this year. I think VHD has to be given at least 2 weeks after the myxomatosis vaccination but I could be wrong. I don't think I would be able to forgive myself if Holly died of myxi when I know I could have done something to prevent it. I also know owners who don't get their rabbits vaccinated so I suppose it depends upon whether you want to take the risk or not.

yes yes yes Jen - please do it - all of mine are (or will be) done. It is better to be safe than sorry. My collegaues rabbit died of myxi - I'm not sure how it caught it. For the small cost it is nice to know your rabbit is protected. The RSPCA rescue home Bibble came from did it automatically, but the new 2 have not been done. My vet is very pro the jabs. They do have to be done annually though. Also you might find that if you wanted to go on holiday and had to place Benji in the rabbit quivalent of a cattery, they would not accept him without his jabs.

Saying that, as a child, none of mine were done - though we are talking 20 years ago and I don't know if the jabs were routine then

okay, will definately get Benji vaccinated then. I was told he would probably get myxi jab first then 3 weeks later VHD though I think they can do it the other way around. I was also told need to wait until he is a few weeks older but am seeing the vet tonight with my Mum's cat so will ask him about it then.
