number1chick_2008
One of our marans was going through moult when we got her (about 8 weeks ago). She has been laying eggs well but has stopped the past week or so. Came home today and the amount of feathers in the garden!!! Picked her up with much protesting and even more fell out covering the garden once again. Her feathers seem clean not any obvious signs of any mites etc. Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going on? seems to be eating and drinking as normal. libby22
I seem to be having the same problem with one of my girls. I thought she had started her moult some weeks ago, but then it seemed to come to a halt. Last week she had a dust bath, got up and literally left all her feathers behind She lost quite a few over the next few days but seems to be slowing down now. Her lovely brown feathers are now dotted with huge white gaps! She is eating, drinking, diving about as normal so must just be how it goes I suppose. I have a tonic added to her water which states that assists with extra nutrients and protein whilst they are in moult. She is 2 and this will be her first proper moult so much learning will be done
sjp
she could have been broody just before you got her or she could be going broody that would trigger a mini moult but it more than likely she's moulting proper now I've had year old birds that part moult then stop and then moult again

Some baldy patches but no signs of broody behaviour as yet. Just hope they grow back quick its getting cold!!!
