Evil newbies

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question, when you separate a bully hen, is it 24/7 or would you let them free range together? What about treats for the bully? Or is it just plain food and water? Got 2 new pekins yesterday to join my 3 girls, one is plain evil to everyone and the other wants to be friends but keeps turning on them, obv just desperate not to be bottom hen, mine don't have a pecking order and are so meek, they just don't know what's hit them!

The bully wouldn't let the other pekin back in their house tonight so I've let her in with mine. Don't know if she'll realise solitary confinement is a punishment as she does seem to be a loner. Anyway early days (so I keep telling myself). They have a WIR with LOTS of feeding/water points, perches (mine don't do perches tho) and so many treats dangling I'm pretty sure the eggs will dry up soon :wall:

Was all mentally prepared for the newbies to be bullied not the other way around.

Thanks, nicky.

I would free range them together. As for treats, I don't think she will understand if she doesn't get any. The main thing is that the others can run away from the bully. As for night time, you could put the non-bullied one in when it's dark and they are all asleep. How bad is she, is it relentless :?::D

Thanks for that, will keep free ranging them, it was Wednesday I got them not yesterday, doh. Spent all day yesterday and today sitting out with a hot water bottle, going to look for water gun tomw. (Neighbours will think I'm even more barmy!) today all 3 had bleeding combs (but not badly) but I put Vicks on them before letting them out so I think this helped. I wish mine would run away but the moment any of the pekins approach they stoop down and freeze. If only they'd stand up and freeze, then they'd be too tall for them  silly girls.
