Hen Fan
One of our 5 newly hatched chicks is behaving differently to the others. All evening she has been charging about the brooder and peeping really shrilly. I have made sure she/he has food, water and have checked the heat. I've even put in a fluffy scarf in case she/he wants a snuggle. I wonder if she could be distressed. All the other chicks are asleep or going about their business. Is there anything else I can do? I feel a bit like a new mum with a collicy baby!
sjp
if it's active then it should be ok it's the really in active ones that try to hide all the time I worry about. you do get gobby ones I had one last year that squeaked all the time 12 month on and she's just about grown out of it but she still sound different to the rest of the mob this year I've got one that doesn't shut up but it's now 11 weeks old and is starting to be less gobby but that's probably because it's voice is changing and it'll start crowing soon
Hen Fan
Funnily enough just after I did my post last night she finally settled down and slept (in the bowl of chick crumb!). She's back on form hurtling around and peeping v loudly. I think that she's just noisy!
UKMARCH
They are quite loud aren't they? We recently had our first ever hatch but now they are outside with a broody who hatched some too but when in the garden I can hear them all peeping away its cute and will miss it when they grow up or turn into cockerels!
