Minnie&Moose
Very exciting - just heard 2 little cheepers from inside the house where our pekin Daphne is currently sitting on 4 wheaten maran eggs! Our first hatch was 4/5 cockerals (and all the marans were male) so thought we'd risk it and have another go - we'd really like a couple of dark brown egg layers and wheaten maran hens are such lovely looking birds. Fingers crossed we get a couple of girls in amongst the boys this time! Hopefully by tomorrow we'll have pictures.
UKMARCH
Are they here, the wheatens look lovely don't they? I can sympathise I also had 4/5 cockerels on my first ever hatch this year so have hatched again and it looks like quite a fee more too although I need to give them a couple more weeks to be sure. I have one copper black pullet who needs some friends! Hope you get some girls too
Minnie&Moose
2 little chicks are here & Daphne's very insistent that the remaining eggs stay under her! I'm giving her until this evening - if nothing's happened I'll remove them. Have seen both chicks eat and drink so not too worried they're being neglected yet - but Daphne needs to start looking after them and herself! Luvachicken
Any photos ? Did the other eggs hatch ? I hope you manage to get mostly girls.
Minnie&Moose
Only 2 eggs hatched in the end sadly - and I suspect they're both boys I haven't managed to get any pictures yet - the broody is very protective and gets very very upset at any kind of interference. Hopefully I'll get some tomorrow when I move them from their hatch site into the spare eglu. It's going to be musical houses tomorrow with everyone moving house - oh joy.
