woodchips and fungus - help!

Recommended Posts

I've had hardwood chips down in the chickens' patch (about 16 square metres) since September, and have been really pleased with them, but since all the recent rain I'm starting to spot the odd piece of wood with little white/bluish dots on it which I take to be fungus growing. Are there any solutions to this other than covering the whole patch? I'm putting Stalosan F on it weekly, but that's obviously not keeping it dry. What can I do to get rid of the fungus safely?

Not sure why you want to remove the fungus Eggshell. It should be completely harmless in the run. It's black mould in the coop that must be avoided at all costs. Our runs were not entirely covered and the wet stuff just rotted rather quickly and we put more on top. Eventually you have to remove it all and replace it I suppose. Our runs have been empty for two years now and the wood chip has completely rotted and disappeared entirely. Kept completely dry it lasts perhaps 10 times longer.
