Hello all,

I'm new here, so please go gently! :-)

I bought three 1 metre cube extensions on eBay in January so we could have a decent size run, with the intention of buying a Cube and then chickens in the spring. Spring is here and I've now found out I've wasted my money (and time driving around the north of England) as there is a new design of run and the old Cube run extension isn't compatible with the new runs. I cannot see any reference to the redesign prior to the 17th February. I only realised that the run extensions we have will not work when my partner saw some online last night which made reference to them being 'Mk1'. I then found out the rest on Google and on here.

A simple question - I've tried Omlet, eBay and Amazon sellers and I know they do get sold second hand (but I haven't found one in decent condition less than a few hours drive away) - does anyone know where I can buy a new or nearly new Mk1 Cube run or Cube and Cube run?

Here's hoping - apologies if I have posted in the wrong place.

Oh dear, what a shame. I have a mark 1 cube and run and noticed Omlet were selling the run extensions half price so quickly ordered one as I wanted more room in my run and worried the new ones wouldn't be compatible!! Seems you have been caught out the other way round!

Have you looked on the selling section on this forum? Also there's a "wanted" section too. I'm sure you'll be able to get a hold of one. I have a green one, it's fab!!! It's 3 years old now, I was cleaning it today and it's nearly as good as new. I love it, so easy to look after :D

Aw thank you. I'll have a look at those sections now.

Yes, I was feeling pretty pleased with myself, then I saw the discounted new ones, but only worked out the incompatibility issue last night when my partner nearly bought another 2 extensions. I have 2 friends that have Cubes and I wasn't going anywhere else, but this has set us back a few months. There's foxes (and I'm told stoats) where we live. I want our chickens to be safe but happy when we're not at home.

Best of luck with your search :D You'll not be disappointed

Just one thing to mention re foxes. With the cube poo trays you have to make sure they "lock" when you slide them in to place. There have been cases of foxes getting to hens via the poo trays. I have one that "locks" better than the other  So I just always give a good tug on them after putting them back in every time, best to check

I had a wooden coop and run 1st and got red mite :wall: Nightmare! Ended up taking it to the tip, just couldn't get rid of the red mite. No red mite since I got the cube

I will have 5 meters on my cube once I add my new section  Going to hatch once I get a broody hen........ please let me get some girls!!

Lots of help and advice on here whenever you need it! Just ask

Thanks for the advice. We were going to have 6 metres including the cube and cube run - but then they go and change the design of the run with no warning. :wall: Ah well...

An advert has been placed in the Wanted section!

I might be wrong, but I think the old mark 1 run is compatible with the new mark 2, but it doesn't work the other way round - the mark 2 can't be extended with mark 1s. Not sure how that works, but that's how I read it, there was a thread about this when the mark 2 run was first announced

Hi,

Just to clarify, the old mk1 run extensions aren't compatible with the new mk2 run, but the new mk2 run extensions are compatible with the mk1 run. When I bought mine, they were still being sold for a 100 quid and there was no talk of the new ones. Only a few weeks ago, buyer beware... The forum has been helpful so far, I have found both a potential seller and courier in the market place.
