Thumbcat
Hi All I don't have my chickens yet (picking up my eglu this weekend!!!) but have a few questions about feeding. First of all, I'm getting 3 hens and I'm worried that one of them will have to wait to eat if I only have one grub feeder. Is this the case or do they all cram in? Would it be better to buy a round feeder? And what about grit? Do I scatter it around for them to peck at or mix it in with their food? I'm planning to try them with the layers mash with bokashi from Wriggly Wigglers. Do they need to have access to this all day? Will I attract rodents by feeding mash? I want to have happy hens and this stuff sounds fantastic. I think that's all for now. Thanks.
Chickabee
Congratulations! If the hens have been reared together they should be fine with one feeder. Does your run have an extension 3 hens should have a bit more room than a 2m run. Most people including me prefer pellets. Mash can be very messy and in some cases they will only eat the bits they like. Grit should be provided in a separate container preferably at shoulder height, or like mine they will scratch it all out and dust bathe in it You'll really enjoy your new hobby. Thumbcat
Thanks chickabee. I've got a 3m run and a vague plan to build a WIR once I'm a chicken addict. Unfortunately I need to wait till June to get my chooks as we have a holiday booked.
Chickabee
Brilliant. I'm excited for you. Be careful of that more hens disease
