I have just got 2 beautiful Mille Fleur bantams.They look very pretty.The breeder had a little rooster which I would love to have taken.We are quite a bit from neighbours but didn't want to risk a noisy one.The girl said you can get a thing to put around their neck which stops an air sac ???developing which means they can only have a little crow.Has anyone heard of this.If it works it might save a few boys.

Thanks for that Cat Tails I had totally missed that.Good points raised by all .I would not want to hurt the animal but if was possible to modify behaviour it sounded good.Reading the thread it seems permanent rather than for a while.I am sure bumps bits are uncomfortable too,at least they look pretty awful.

Maybe just discuss it with your neighbours? And tell them what you would do to keep the noise to a minimum? Eg make coop as dark as possible and lock them in at night. They might surprise you and be fine with you getting a cockerel!

We have one next door and they would be fine.they have a holiday cottage in Donegal and a neighbour there has a rooster and they love it. Problem would be one remaining neighbour who is renting a house opposite.He has been over complaining when we have been burning some garden waste,threatening to call fire brigade Friends live next door and they are afraid to light a bonfire because he has complained in past .I think he would go mad.Interestingly on our deeds we are not allowed chickens .Luckily Prev owners encroached on about half an acre of the country park beside us and claimed squatters rights and got given land which has no restrictions and that is the land they are on.
