Sarah 2
because we've started making the new run for our chickens. It's starting to look good. The chickens don't seem to be too impressed. But unfortunately work has haulted due to football We can't decide what to put on the floor of the run. Read loads of posts still not decided. Any ideas on how to entertain chickens? xChicken04x
Hiya, iam sure your chickens love their new run!! Our hens are on wood chippings which makes the run easy to clean with a quick hose down. For entertainment our hens have lots of logs that they love climbing on and we move them every few weeks so they can get the bugs underneith. They like big rocks to climb on and sharpen their beaks and claws and they love their dust bath. You could also sprinkle some mixed corn in their run dailey so they have somthing to forrage for. You could hand some Parot treats in the run to peck at (but not wild bird fat balls because the lard in them can cause heart problems) You could put a little perch in there for them to sit on aswell. hope this helps xx
Sarah 2
Thanks for the reply. Has given me lots to think about. They're not happy because they're used to free ranging all day. But we need some our garden back for the children. What have you made their dust bath out of? and what's it filled with?
xChicken04x
We used one of those under-the-bed storage boxes, it is about a metre long and is filled with childrens play sand (no chemicals) it comes with a lid so you can close it at night to stop the rain getting in. Or you can use a cat litter tray. You can buy the sand and tray from places like Argos and B&Q. Iam sure your chickens will get used to their new run (they can be so ungratefull somthimes ) hope this helps xx
Sarah 2
I've got a cat litter tray but they drink rain water out of it at the moment. A trip to B&Q looks on the cards tommorrow my children will be so pleased. I'll post phots once it's complete so it might be a few weeks.
