Millie-Annie
This time last week I had 5 girls, my one old ex-batt and my four pure breeds. In the space of a 4 days I lost Ivy my old ex-batt, sad but not unexpected and Meva, my 2 year old Crested Cream Leg Bar. Totally unexpected and a total shock. So now I have Issey, a Welsummer, Octavia an Orpington and Clara a Brahma. Issey and Octavia arrived together, with Meva and are 2 and I rehomed Clara 3 months ago, she is 7. The introductions were hell, but Ivy as all borstal babes are was top dog and Issey was her second in command. So now Issey has resumed top chicken, but Clara is always pushing it. So do I rehome more ex-batts which is why we got into chickens? The problem is I loved having girls that all laid different colour eggs, the peace of mind knowing all were laying was great. So 2 ex-batts or 2 pure breeds or do I leave the status quo as it is for now as the three of them are getting along well Help?????
scrambledhead
i will soon have a similar conundrum, I am really keen to have some more rescues but will leave it until I have fewer hens but if you have the space and time to make the introductions go for the ex batts
sparkysmum
Hello I would say that if your pure breeds are still laying then I would also go for batts. I do love them. When I had a couple of vacancies in my little flock I added a couple of batts. So gorgeous. Love their feisty character and curiosity. Mine were always first up and last to bed. Still miss them.
