Minnie&Moose
I'm thinking about trying to make apple juice from and/or bottling some of our excess apples this year - we don't have much freezer space and in previous years they haven't keep very well beyond December. Does anyone do this and if so have you found a satisfactory way of preserving the juice? Any tips most welcome. Thanks.
Blackrocksrock
Hi, the only thing I do with the apples is juice them in and pass the frothy stuff through a muslin cloth and it runs clear golden colour and tastes fab - It obviously wont keep so we keep plastic water bottles and freeze it - just finished the last not long ago from last year - hardly any apples this year so doubt be doing it again. Olly
Two years ago I'd injured my knee and couldn't pick any apples, so a friend picked them for me and combined them with ones from her garden. She took them all to a company somewhere in Kent who juiced them, pasteurised and bottled them - I've only recently finished the last bottle. I can't remember what it cost but it wasn't a fortune and it made a great gift. We're thinking of doing a combined trip again this year. I've got more apples than I can use.ETA: if you Google you should find somewhere local that does this.
WitchHazel
I've pasteurised home pressed apple juice, it was very successful. I used glass flasks (Weck) which had rubber sealing rings, but you can also pasteurise in clean glass bottles.
