duncan
Hi I've recently got 3 Bovan's Goldline who have not have wings clipped. Though I fenced off an area of garden around their run, two of them seem quite able to fly over the fence (just less than 2m high). Am considering either clipping wings or extending fence up and over top of area. Is there anyone in the Edinburgh area who has experience with wing clipping who could help me out, as I've never done this before. Have read the info on forum about this and it seems straight forward, but there again info on other web sites points to serious problems if you get things wrong. Thanks in advance for any help/advice. Duncan
Guest
If in doubt - don't cut off too much of the length of the feathers at first - it is fairly straight forward. Hope someone is near you who can come and give you a bit of moral support
Couperman
Hi Duncan, We have six chooks all unclipped, I asked the breeder if he would show us how to clip their wings and he looked at me as if I was retarded! I am pretty sure that if they wanted to at least four of our hens could clear our seven foot fences but as yet have shown little inclination to do so. I think that may have more do with the fact that our garden is fairly small so there is not enough room for the required run up. I have read posts on here from people who have clipped wings of 'flighty' hens and claim it makes little difference anyhow. Sorry to be not much help, but I remember worrying about the same issue and in our case it was unjustified. Kev.

Ain't Nobody Here
Glad to see someone else from Edinburgh on the forum! Wish I could help but I'm still waiting for my first ever chickens to be delivered - and hoping their wings will have been clipped for me! I'll be checking the advice you got if they haven't. I've got a 3ft wall with a 1ft trellis and am a bit worried that they'll manage to get over it. I'll be watching your post with interest!
