Valkyrie
I went to the hairdressers the other week and darn it, forgot something to read. Popped into nearby newsagent and ended up with the Kitchen Garden magazine. It has the look and feel of the Country Smallholding. Felt meaty with pages! Gardeners World magazine is really dire now. Hardly any content. But this one was brimming with ideas. It also had an added bonus of seed packets - lots! Now usually you might find one or two attached on the front, but inside these were bound by a rubber band! Enough to set you up as a beginner for sure! Was quite impressed and it has the old favourites like Bob Flowerdew, Anne Swithinbank, Pippa Greenwood and even Charles Dowding has articles in there! It seems more like Gardeners World used to be. I have passed my copy on to a lady on jury service with me as her daughter is just starting on her allotment. I won't need the magazine because I think I'm pretty much there with regard to veg and I follow Charles Dowding's blog anyway - I do tend to use Youtube a lot. So I would thoroughly recommend this magazine for newbies, or even those that like nice veggie mags. I may just get another copy when I'm next at the hairdressers. Actually it started off a very nice conversation with the Pakistani shop owner. We started talking about veg and then chickens and then farms and he said he missed being on his parents farm - but they go back to visit in the holidays. Nice fellow. He may just go and get some chickens in his garden now. I wonder who sewed those seeds???
Olly
Thanks. I've given up on Gardeners' World - too many glossy photos of exotic things that most of us won't ever grow, and not enough practical advice. Might try this one.
