Keeping one chicken

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My girls were all taken by the fox one night after wheely bins were introduced. I didn't get anymore but kept the house because I knew one day I wanted more.

Two weeks ago a friend called me as he had found a chicken in the street on his way home. She was very friendly, well cared for and had a ring on her leg. We have been unable to find her original owners and I have not been able to find any local chicken owners to take her.

Is she ok on her own? She seems happy enough and isn't overly bothered with me except when she wants food. She just gets on with being a chicken. I worry that she needs some chicken pals and if I should try and find her a friend.

I'd wait and see how she is - how is she behaving ?

The first time Boo was left as a lone chicken she clearly got depressed after 3 days - she wouldn't come out of the eglu.

The second time she was left as a lone chicken (she out survived 2 new companions) she was fine on her own.

They are flock animals but they're all different.

Can you give her extra attention and wait a bit ?

H
