Goolan29
Hi all, I have 4 little chicks, 2 silkies and 2 pekin bantams who hatched just over a week ago. One of the pekin's is much smaller than the rest, in fact it's tiny, and appears to have something wrong with it's foot as it looks very awkward when walking. I have looked at it but can see nothing wrong. I feel so sorry for this poor little chick as it spends most of it's time in one spot while the others are all following their mum around the run. It can walk/run but is very unsteady and does get knocked over by the others. It is eating & drinking. After being outside in the run it can't get back into the eglu and sits outside cheeping very loudly for it's mummy. I then lift it in. Mummy hen is still looking after it and makes sure it is tucked under her wing. I really don't know what to do. Should I just leave the little chick & see what happens, should I take it to the vet? Any advice gladly welcomed. Thank you.
Luvachicken
Just came across your post and wondered how the little pekin is doing now ? Did you manage to take it to a vet ? I hope it is alright - big pekin fan here
Goolan29
Oh he/she is doing fine thank you. I looked on the internet & ended up sticking his/her little foot flat to a little piece of cardboard with a plaster. I managed to keep this on for nearly a week & amazingly it now seems normal. The little chick is still much smaller than the others & did take a while to catch up but seems perfectly fine. Their foster mummy "Ethel" is doing such a fantastic job of raising the chicks & they are such cute little things. I can't bear the thought that any of them may be male & I will have to re-home them. My next question on here will probably be about sexing them!! Thank you for your concern.
