Keeping chickens in Little Neston, Wirral

Recommended Posts

Good morning

We are moving to the Wirral soon in Little Neston. I was wondering if anybody keeps chickens nearby. A friend of mine said that you need to check with the council for keeping birds as some councils forbid you keeping chickens.

Sorry if this sounds vague or bizarre. Any help would be most welcome, we only have a small garden thinking about attending basic course of chicken keeping.

Regards

Christine

Sorry don't understand how your post got missed....

It's your house lease/deeds you need to look at for animal exclusions. The local council may have a clause which allows them to ban cockerals in urban areas but not always.

I think quite a few folks ignore all regulations & hope for the best, but this can backfire if someone makes a complaint.

Hope that helps

Attending a course is an excellent idea

councils can't ban chickens as they would be in breach of at least 2 acts of parliament is what We were told by an officer of council when we had the new lease for the allotments a year or 2 back. and because they have to allow chickens on allotments they also have to allow them to be kept at council houses due to the cross over of rights from the act of parliament that covers council house tenants rights applying to allotment tenants and because of that they have to allow private homes to keep them

cockerels are a slightly different thing as the Allotment act doesn't technically ban them but it also doesn't technically allow them but puts them under the noise pollution act so as long as no one puts in a complaint about the noise their 'safe' . Cockerels on allotments around here are not allowed on council run sites but there are a few on self managed sites but if they get a complaint about them then they have to go with in 7 days I only know of one allotment were the plot holder was told to get rid of their cockerels not because of a complaint but because a council officer heard them crowing as far as I know the cockerels stayed
