DorianGray
Hi I'm here to pick brains please. One of my young girls, who started laying about 4 weeks ago, has for the past 5 days or so been refusing to leave the nest box & can be found sort of hunched up / forward with her vent 'offered'. I've given her a good feel over & I'm 99.9% certain that she isn't egg bound (I think she is still laying) so I am at a loss as t what the problem might be as it's the first time I've encountered in in the 7 years I've been keeping hens. Any ideas welcomed please. Thank you.
Lewis
Sounds to me like she is broody! Persistence is key to breaking a broody so take her off the nest and close the coop to keep her in the run. If she carries on for a couple days you'll need to pop her in a broody crate with food and water. A wire cat carrier or dog crate is best, raised on a couple of bricks.
