Chicken making wheezy noise when breathing

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm going to try posting this in both forums as I'm quite worried about one of our hens.

Nugget is making a quiet wheezy type of noise when she breathes in or out, and has been making the noise since yesterday - it sounds like the noise you might make if there's something stuck up your nose!! however, I am a little worried - she seems fine in herself, eating and drinking well, still laying, running around the garden all day but is constantly making this squeaky noise when she breathes - do hens get blocked noses?? there's no sign of a runny nose and she's not sneezed or anything, and strangely when we pick her up to see if there was something stuck in her beak she stopped making the noise but that may have been nerves as we've only had them about 3 weeks and they're not that used to be handled yet.

Any advice greatly appreciated

we had this problem cant remember the name of the illness but antibiotics cures it,get her to the vet for a jab and she should be fine, she will allso pass this on to the others ask the vet for liquid antibiotics and put some in the water untill it it clears up.took around 4 days for our hens to be wheeze free oh and dont eat the eggs for around a week after treatment stops.

hope it goes well for you

she's fine today, no sound at all and when they were roosting last night we noticed it had stopped so fingers crossed something had just got stuck up her nose!! considering the rate she eats her treats I wouldn't be surprised but we're going to keep a close eye on her anyway for the next few days

keep an eye on this!

Our Sam was wheezing a little and we ignored it for a week. It got worse and all of a sudden she was very ill with a respitory infection and I thought we would lose her at one point. :( We took her to the vets and she was on a course of Baytril injections for about 10 days, she is a lot better now.

I dont want to alarm you but take her to the vets if you notice it again. :)
