hflower
My 2 1/2 year old Brahma bantam has canker in her mouth and throat. My vet gave her Baytril and Metronidazole but these have not helped. She still has the lesions. Can anyone help me on what to do next.? Thank you, Helen
The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that - it should be treatable with Metronidazole. I'm afraid that it is highly contagious and if it was my bird not responding to the treatment, then I would despatch her. It's not a nice end for them to go with canker. You will need to look at your husbandry - it is transmitted by wild birds, mainly pigeons, so make sure that your feeders and drinkers are away from garden birds. I would disinfect them all thoroughly at any rate.
