AlexB
Hi, Is there a reason why the Eglu cube is only sold with a stand? I keep Cochins and I can’t see them wanting to climb up that ladder, they’re too bulky, I think. Thanks!
The Dogmother
The cube (both versions) is designed to be kept off the floor to aid ventilation and prevent vermin from entering. Cochins don't have any problem getting into it, nor do Orpingtons, but if you are worried then I'd suggest that you buy different housing, say with a shallow ramp
AlexB
Okay, thanks. I like the plastic coops, I have to admit. Perhaps I should have more faith in the Cochins? 😊
Daphne
I used to keep my cube on the ground, with a homemade wooden run inside an electric netting pen. It worked a treat. I used to keep LF orps, including cockerals, and they very rarely left the ground for any reason whatsoever!

I love the ease and cleanliness of the eglus. I just found it strange as the classic sits on the ground that they don’t do a larger coop for on the ground use.
