Tweety
Hi everyone, Just wondered if anyone could recommend me a book about how to hatch eggs, look after chicks etc? Also, how good/bad an idea is it to buy hatching eggs off ebay? Looking forward to your replies!
ubereglu
Try Incubation, a guide to hatching a rearing by Katie Thear. I wouldn't want to buy hatching eggs off ebay as I've heard a lot of complaints. Look on the Practical Poultry forum and the Pekin bantams forum for some. They're really helpful on there. feemcg
I have that book too. I have bought plenty eggs from ebay and its been absolutely fine - just make sure the sellers have good feedback and pics of their own birds. On Practical Poultry forum theres a thread about sellers to avoid. All the eggs I've bought have come next day delivery and in most cases intact. I've even had eggs from Orkney and had 6 eggs fertile and 6 hatched. They say at this time in the season fertility may be dropping and also more chance of boys - don't know if this is true. this week's hatch for me was 50/50. A few of us on here have hatched in an incubator and should be able to answer some of your questions. Have a look at my chick pics and you'll be even more tempted
