peggy and babs
This may sound like a strange question but we have had our chickens for over 2 months now and one still hasn't laid. This morning however we heard, what sounded to us, like a definate crow. Are there any signs we could look for to see whether it is male or female. Thanks
Christian
Did you get the girls from Omlet? I guess its a possibility that a male slipped through the net, but i think that Omlet use PPs and GNRs as they can be sexed as day old chicks. Laverne makes a sort of 'crow' noise when she (or the others) lay an egg We had to wait nearly 3 months for Shirley to start laying, so i wouldn't worry too much. The weather has been really srange this year, it has affected my girls laying too. How big and red are their combs? Do they squat when you approach them? These are are good signs that they are coming into lay. Hope you get some eggs soon. ps. Not too sure how to indentify a male (story of my life ) but they tend to have a spur on the inside of their legs and have two longer tail feathers. Snowy
If she's a gingernut you should be OK as males are white! Only females are ginger. My Beryl looks like a rooster. She has the same upright build and huge comb and wattles. And she crows! But she also lays eggs. Think she's just a bit butch.
xChicken04x
We where convinced Magic was a boy, she looks very manly and has got a big comb and wattles. All our girls layed on the first and second days of having them but Magic taken another 19 days. But in those 19 days we where thinking of taking her back because we thought she was a boy. Glad to say she has layed like a trooper ever since xx
