jilly
Has anyone ever bought from Moorlands Polutry in Leek, Staffs ? I know we have only just lost Daisy-Mae and I know we will never replace her. But my boys are really missing her and they asked could they have another hen to take their minds off what has happened. I don't know yet what to do but just tentatively looked online for the boys sake and came across Moorlands poultry. They are Meadowsweet agents. They don't have any sussex comets (which Daisy-Mae was) but don't want another because I feel it would be like we were trying to replace her which we can never do. Just want to make sure I'm buying from a reputable source. Do Omlet order theirs from Meadowsweet ? Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated. Cinnamon
Hi Jilly, Sorry for your loss first of all.I have lost hens before & it is always awful. I have not used Moorlands, but I have used other Medowsweet agents & have always been impressed with them. I don't think Omlet get their hens from Medowsweet, but there is some cross over with the berrds - a Gingernut Ranger being the same as a Rhode Star (I think?), & also with other hen sellers - White Star (Medowsweet) & White Comet etc. A Sussex Comet is the same as a Medowsweet Sussex Star. The Medowsweet Bluebelle is a nice hen,& the White & Amber Stars are lovely too. Good luck anyhow.
Tweety
Hi Jilly, So sorry about your little girl. I don't know anything about Moorlands, but I got 2 chickens from Garden Poultry which is one of Omlet's recommended breeders and which is in the Northwich area. The hens are lovely - I got a Blue Comet and a Snow White - and you can have a look at their available breeds on their website, which also tells you where to find them. Good luck. Los Tres Pollos
Hi We got our cube 2 weeks ago with two omlet birds (one of each)but had already decided to get a third. Moorlands is only a short distance away and having visited them before when deciding on chucks or not, phoned them to check on availability set off to buy at 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Arriving around 5pm was no problem, although was looking to buy a Bluebell came away with an Amber Star , she was so inquisative and alert just saying 'take me with you', so we did. Was told by the lady there that she was about 18 weeks and would lay soon. Which she did the next day 11 now in 14 days. Dolly, as we called her, is real character by far the most friendly of the three, always around out feet when free ranging, followed me all afternoon today as I moved a pile of bricks though the wood lice were probably the reason. Getting back to the original question, from our experience would definately recommend Moorlands for the quality of their birds. Hope this helps
