Pamela
Hello All One of my chicks (Bea - the boss) has learnt to peck and eat any eggs that are laid. The other 2 then gleefully join in the feast. I am most upset, we have run out of eggs for the first time in 2 years! Have got a porceline egg and put eggshell around it thinking that it may discourage her, but she just pecks all of the shell away. Read another thread which people suggested mustard, which I'm trying. Any other ideas?? I'm getting close to think I'm going to have to separate them, which I really don't want to do. Chick are great fun and entertaining, but the egg really are a large part of the attraction. Any suggestions most welcome thanks
theherd123
I would see how the mustard trick works but if it doesnt you could try fitting them with bumper bits. These fit onto the chickens beak and should stop them from breaking any more eggs.
Christian
Apart from grabbing the eggs as soon as they are laid (not practical) i would leave some rubber eggs in the nest. She can't peck through those so might 'forget' the habit. Someone on here used the mustard trick a while ago and it worked for them. Good luck.
