Baggins
After 9 months of chicken harmony, Pepper has started to pick on Matilda. It isn't particularly malicious but bad enough that Matilda will not go near Pepper and if Pepper so much as looks at her, Matilda will go running away speedily and clucking madly. Matilda is moulting, but then so is Elisa, so I can't imagine that could be the cause. What do you think has happened to upset the balance and how can it be restored? I hate to see Matilda being so left out when Pepper and Elisa are "hanging out" together.
theherd123
Oh dear it is so upsetting isn't it I have one girl who is always 'going solo' and i did feel sorry for her but i always sneek her extra treats when the others arent looking and she seems to be happy being bottom of the pack. Hopefully your chooks will sort things out over the next few days but i suppose its only natural for pecking orders to change with time. Richard
the order does change with time, especially if one or more are moulting - and sometimes it seems to be just random. Stick with it - I'm sure it will all even out and change around again before too long!
cutechicky
Yes, I wouldn't worry too much about it. My chickens have recently been arguing for the place as leader! It's starting to stop now though, as I think "pip" has finally realised "Kiwi" is a lot bigger and stronger! Just watch them carefully to make sure it doesn't get too out of hand and everything should be fine.
