Richard
Can someone tell me why my Orpingtons seem to have different set up eyes than the other breeds? My others all have yellow outsides to their eyes and dark pupils. The Orps don't seem to have the yellow outsides - their eyes are just deep dark pools. Liz has the normal sort of eyes; whereas Trinny has just dark eyes (well there may be just a tiny little yellow rim); Its nothing to do with the ambient light - their eyes are like that all the time. They actually look really nice - very moody and deep. Ok, yes I really like Orpingtons and mine can do no wrong - but I would like to know why their eyes are different! Olly
sorry, no idea, just wanted to say how gorgeous they are!
cutechicky
you would probably need to ask a chicken scientist! Maybe they need more light to see than other chickens. Questions you may want to think about to help answer your question could be: *Is an Orpingtons eyesight and worse/better than a "different breed". I personally have absolutely no idea. It may be good to read up on eyes in general. You may learn something about it.
Snowy
They are beautiful girls Richard! Trinny looks like her eyes have a much bigger pupil than Lizzies. The only thing I can think of is the light but you say they are like that all the time. As long as they are all the same and aren't bumping into things I'd assume it's specific to the breed. Here is an entry from the Orpington breed standards saying the blue has dark eyes. http://freespace.virgin.net/mick.barrett/Breed_Standards.htm

But they don't seem to have any trouble seeing so I'm not worried. I was just a bit concerned becos without any ears they would have real trouble with glasses ...
