The henners
Last September one of our hens (9 month at the time) went broody for a few days. After that I noticed a small bald patch on her tummy. The patch has grown over the last 7 month and now her tummy is bare and its creeping up her neck. She looks very tatty but you only see the bare chest when you part her feathers. Not a single feather has regrown in all this time. She is happy (except for not being free ranged at the moment) , lays an egg a day and gets regularly wormed. Her sisters have no problems and its not parasites. If she doesn't feather up soon she'll look like a battery hen. Any idea what is wrong with her and when she'll regrow her feathers? Cat tails
It doesn't sound like she is too much bothered by it. Many layers, and especially hens that tend to go broody, have a bald underside. Some are just a bit too enthusiastic in plucking. I wouldn't be too concerned as long as it keeps to her underside.
The henners
Thank you Cat tails. I just worried because I couldn't find anything online that had any explanation for this weird baldness. With summer coming she should be fine 😂
