Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Yes they are big! I bought four to keep by three hybrids company but I now feel that due to their size four is too many so would like to only keep two. Would prefer to sell the other two if possible to recoup my money.

Do they fit in an eglu/ eglu cube? I heard that they wouldnt hence have got any yet - but if they fitted - then I would need to discuss with OH - but could definitely be interested.

Don't want to put a spanner in the works Bantam of the opera but I would imagine with 1 eglu you'll not have enough room. Orpingtons are such a big breed. If you have more space and I have misunderstood I am sorry, just thought I should say something.

 

I have cochins and a brahma and mine are huge, with a years growth to go. They wouldn't fit in the eglu.

I agree: Cochins are more than twice the size of an Omlet hen: they weigh about ten pounds each.

 

Three Cochins would just squeeze into a Mark 2 Eglu.

 

Two Cochins and two Omlet hens might also work, but it would be tight.

yep i can deffo get the buffs, and ive messaged you about it daniele.

and sorry for the misunderstanding. i dont just have an eglu. lol. i am aware that they woudnt all fit.

 

I keep just teh 3 batnys in the eglu and herro has a big green chicekhouse to herself. Me and my boyfriend got it second hand and fixed it all up. It was too big for just her and mrs. weasly really but now with just herro in it it seems a waste to me. Theres always room for more chickens.

 

SO dont worry everyone, im not shoving all my chickens in one tiny house.

I love Thornes. Before I got my chickens I used to get my eggs from there and always had to go and see the chickens.

 

it was their fault we got three. When I told them we were only going to get two they gave me a hard time.

 

I was so upset when I told Andyman we had to get at least three.

Was that a Silver Nick I saw on your pictures. I love them. My three are called Amber, Coral and Chip (has a chipped beak). Frank is very nice. Do you go to his 'talks'. We plan to go the one in November. Daniele

Ooo. ooo! I'm getting my hens from Thornes! I was in there today talking to Frank and looking at the new batch of hybrids - I hope to collect them at the weekend.

 

I'm planning on going to the November talk - are they usually good?

Hi Jo, nice to meet you. I have never been to Frank's talks. I got my Silver Nicks in September, missed his talk in October (Frank was showing how to cull a chicken which I did not want to see), but would like to go to the one in November. Frank says that they are very popular. Hope to see you there. It would be nice to meet other chicken owners local to me. I live near Bedford. Daniele
