hayleym
Good evening everyone, Rupert was a house rabbit who became a little too interested in the sofa and flagstones so we reluctantly decided he had to go outside. He has been outside since about April and he seems alot happier and healthier. We don't shut him in unless we are moving him to another patch of grass and he is so desparate to get out that I don't think I would want to shut him in at all now. We started to see an increase in the amount of food he was eating last week and after doing a night patrol, we have determined that he is getting a regular visit from rats who are craftily eating his pellets. I am surprised they can get in but apprantly they are skinny! Has anyone else had a similar problem and do we need to be worried about the rats? We will be putting some poison down (not near Ruperts Rablu) but can see the problem recurring from time to time. Any ideas/comments would be appreciated. Love the Rablu by the way
tenzin
I'd best avoid the Rat poisining , just in case . Get a few rat or mice traps and put peanut butter or chocolate in them , probably find you haev a family of mice .. When i first got hens , noticed alot of corn was going missing so got a mice trap , plastic friendly one , caught 8 in 11 nights ..PROBLEM SOLVED .. Since then i had 1 visitor and soon caught him the same way , i take them for a drive to the woods and let them go
Happy-Mama
Hi, would definately take tenzins advice, one of our cats died because it ate a mouse that had eaten poison

RubyMurray
Hi there, I have had mice visiting my chicken run a few times and found where his nest is, he wasn't a problem and the kids used to go out at dusk to watch him hoover up the bits the hens had left behind. One day I found him drowned in one of the bowls of water, so since that day I have a big stone in the water so the next thirsty mouse can get out. Probably think I'm mad helping the mouse but I love all animals and it was horrid to see it there drowned (although it only lasted a couple of mins before a chicken spotted it and it was gone!) I might think twice if it was a rat though. Don't think you should use poison though, my cat was really sick a few weeks ago and it does go through your mind if its been poisoned or not - get a trap, then you know when its gone too. Take care, Dyan
