The Dogmother
You want to speak to Phil Buffie, he never eats brekkie whereas we eat well. He has a slow metabolism and just doesn't feel like eating - unless someone has cooked him breakfast that is The next thing is that he complains about a lack of energy, then I go
Mel (& Paul)
Thanks for all the tips guys. My biggest downfall is the biscuits / cakes that keep on appearing at work. I try really hard to resist, but am so weak willed its a miracle I get anything done I will try with the snacks mid am and pm (I guess donuts arent a good choic ) and see how it goes. I have put so much weight on over the last two months hardly any of my clothes fit
buffie
Bagels and pitta bread and foods that burn slowly keep you satisfied. Yoghurts ( I love pecan nut) are also great. AWT's GI cookbook is good, not a diet but about raising blood sugar and maintaining it, ignore the diet sections. I'll get that Phil when I see him Clare BBx

Cate in NZ
Buffie, on the breakfast and regular eating thing I believe in this big time, had my years of skipping breakfasts (I blame shiftwork, and my desire to stay in my bed as long as possible ), but these days religiously eat breakfast, and stand over my children to make sure that they do too- even if it's only a yoghurt and a banana for speed (Imy's hit the age where getting her hair perfect is more important than food- and I'm on a very tight schedule in the morning, hence bananas- it's possible to eat them in the car on the way to school ). I also preach the no diet, but always eat breakfast and small, regular meals method at work whenever anyone asks my advice. However I've been challenged by several people now, apparently on "Celebrity Fit Club", last week I think, their nutritionist, a doctor, said to exercise before breakfast in oreder to maximise weight loss Is this right do you think I'd be really grateful for your opinions- I didn't watch the programme, but those comments fly in the face of everything I believe in in terms of healthy eating etc. What do you think? The Dogmother
I've not heard that specific one before Kate, but I used to be a real fitness nut, and apparently if you eat within 2 hours of exercising, your metabolic rate will still be higher and you will burn up the calories from tha meal faster. Might just be a myth, but sounds about right. Personally i couldn't exercise before breakfast, and I never eat less than 2 hours before exercising as it makes me sick

Guest
Good pedometer in Argos, now £5. Make = HiGear. I saw the Fit Club thing and yes, the doctor advised walking before breakfast to get the metabolism going. I don't think he meant vigorous exercise. Lots of people swim first thing don't they? Sheila advised walking for 10-20 minutes before every meal. I think that would be quite nice and I could get into that habit, but I can't find a way of freeing myself from the cooking of the meal! Mel (& Paul)
We had a family weigh in last night (we weigh the dogs regularly to ensure that they arent eating too much / loosing too much weight). Charlie lost 0.6kg, Blue 0.5kg, Minky stayed even. Paul lost 2kg (like he needs to ) and I PUT ON 0.2kg I have been trying SO hard Its NOT fair

buffie
KateA Sorry kateA been so busy but here's what I know. Firstly hate those progs and the Gillian woman was on last night now does she look good anyone Right yes exercise before food is good BUT we have to kick start the metabolism in the morning and I for one think I would feel faint so breakie and then walk but a walk before lunch and a walk before dinner great! We now walk early evening (you speed up the body before you eat) which I think is lovely as I can then relax! Bottom line all exercise is positive however much you can manage. MEL I don't have scales, weighing yourself doesn't make youn feel inspired does it Did you know your weight goes up by about 5lbs during the day I would leave the scales alone and just get on with getting on!
