JaneG
Our chicken pen is roughly 40ft x 30ft and it's split into two....one side, 20ft x 30ft is grassed and is great, the other side however is just..well, mud. It was grass but the chickens spend loads of times in there so it no longer is. Now, this has been fine for the last few weeks but of course it's starting to rain a lot etc. so we NEED something down before it turns to sludge! What should we use? We were thinking those bark chip thingies but read a thread about how they shouldn't be used...we can't really put slabs down because it's such a big area. Any ideas? Also, what do you guys use in the main house bit where they sleep? Jane
Egluntyne
Aubiose......£ 7-ish for a huge bale. Super absorbant, doesn't contain citronella, composts beautifully. If you poo pick regularly, it will last for weeks and weeks. A cover on the run might be a good idea, to help prevent the Aubiose getting soaked by rain. JaneG
Thanks. I'm looking into aubiose for my hamsters anyway so when we find somewhere will get some. It wont blow away in the wind will it? If anyone is in South Yorkshire, do you know where we can buy aubiose from? I think a cover would be a good idea too...do you reckon a sheet of tarpaulin (sp?) would work ok? edit: Egultine, I just realised you're in Sheffield, where do you get it from?
